The opposition alliance INDIA bloc is considering legal action against the special revision of the voter list in Bihar, expressing serious concerns over the move’s implications for marginalized communities.

RJD leader Manoj Jha raised objections, stating that the Election Commission’s position on the migrant population could endanger the voting rights of Dalits, Backward Classes, and minority groups. He argued that since these communities often migrate out of the state in search of employment, excluding them during the revision process would amount to disenfranchisement.
The INDIA bloc believes that the revision could be used politically to manipulate voter demographics, especially in a state like Bihar where migration for livelihood is widespread. The alliance is now reportedly consulting legal experts to challenge the move in court, ensuring that no eligible voter is removed from the rolls due to temporary migration.The Election Commission has not yet issued a formal response to the INDIA bloc’s objections.
The INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, has announced its intention to explore legal avenues to challenge the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to conduct a special revision of the voter list in Bihar. The bloc claims that the revision process may exclude a large number of genuine voters, particularly from the Dalit, Backward, and minority communities, many of whom migrate out of the state for work.

RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha has voiced strong criticism of the move, stating that the ECI’s current stance on the migrant population is discriminatory and threatens the constitutional right to vote. According to Jha, the majority of migrants from Bihar belong to economically and socially weaker sections who travel to other states in search of livelihood.
