Residents of Kharadi in Pune have been dealing with a mosquito problem, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is stepping in to help. Assistant Health Officer of PMC, Suryakant Deokar, explained that the breeding spots created by water hyacinth in the Mutha river are the main reason for the mosquito issue.
Deokar emphasized, “The main reason for the mosquito problem in Kharadi is the breeding spots created by water hyacinth in the Mutha river. Unless we tackle these spots, the mosquito population won’t decrease.”
To address the issue, PMC has started fogging operations in the area since February 10. Additionally, they have begun removing the water hyacinth from the Mutha river near Kharadi.
Dilip Pawra from the Civic Environment Department shared, “The removal of water hyacinth began last week. Efforts are underway to clear it from the river stretch near Kharadi.” He added that pollution in the river water led to the growth of water hyacinth in the Mundhwa area next to Kharadi. The removal work is expected to be completed in the next few days.
The PMC aims to alleviate the inconvenience caused by mosquitoes and ensure the well-being of Kharadi residents.
