Itanagar : Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has triggered flash floods and landslides across several districts in Arunachal Pradesh, causing widespread damage and severely disrupting normal life, officials reported on Saturday.

In Upper Subansiri district, the situation is particularly grim. The overflowing Sigin River inundated many low-lying areas in Daporijo, the district headquarters, following relentless rains. Flash floods in the region have left a trail of destruction, damaging homes and critical infrastructure.

“At least 117 houses have been impacted, and several roads, bridges, and public facilities have sustained significant damage,” a district official confirmed. Rescue and relief operations are currently underway, with teams deployed to assess the extent of the damage and assist affected residents.

Authorities have also reported landslides in various parts of the hilly terrain, cutting off road connectivity in several interior regions. The state disaster management department is closely monitoring the situation and has issued alerts for areas at risk of further landslides and flooding.

Local administrations have urged residents living near rivers and landslide-prone zones to move to safer locations. Temporary relief shelters have been set up, and essential supplies are being arranged for those displaced by the disaster.

Meanwhile, meteorological officials have warned of continued rainfall in the region for the next 48 hours, raising concerns of further disruptions and worsening conditions.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed concern over the situation and directed officials to expedite relief efforts while ensuring the safety of the affected population. The government is also coordinating with the central agencies to mobilize resources and support for immediate and long-term recovery efforts.

As the rains continue, the state remains on high alert to prevent further loss of life and property.
